This is a scan of the block back. I used medium gray thread to sew this. The only time I would use another color thread would be for blocks with a lot of white (white thread) or very dark or black blocks (black thread).

I press toward the darker fabric when possible. Notice how the seams of each row are pressed in opposite directions. This makes it easier to match up the seams, as they are nestled together and the bulk of the seam allowance is not on one side of the seam.
