Snowflake

Tips & Hints

This block is a 10" block. (That is - 10 1/2" unfinished.) This block is made of dark or medium shade metallic print fabric for the snowflake with a white-on-white background. You may make this block scrappy or not, whatever you think looks best. You will be making a total of THREE blocks this month so that everyone in the swap can win a set of blocks (we have 25 swappers this year).

For EACH block, make eight 2 1/2"x2 1/2" half-square triangle units, half metallic print and half white-on-white fabric (using your favorite method). This is an unfinished measurement. If you are using triangle paper, use 2" triangle paper. Press the units toward the darker fabric. Cut four 2 1/2"x2 1/2" metallic squares. Cut four 2 1/2"x2 1/2" white-on-white squares. Cut one 6 1/2"x6 1/2" metallic square.

For the first row, sew two half-square triangle units to each side of a metallic square (see graphic above for correct placement). Press toward the metallic square. Sew a white-on-white square to each side of the resulting unit. Press toward the half-square triangle unit. Repeat this row for the last row. Sew two half-square triangle units to each side of a metallic square. Repeat once more. Press toward the metallic square. Sew these units to opposite sides of the 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" square (see graphic above for correct placement.) Press toward the metallic square. Sew the first and last row to the top and bottom of this unit. Press toward the metallic square. Check your block to make sure it matches the block graphic. Your block should measure 10 1/2" square.

If you have questions or comments, post a note on the Yahoo club or email Squirrel or Azpatch. You will be making three blocks for December, to make everything come out even. We have 25 swappers this year. Blocks will be due to Patty by December 24th.
