Tips & HintsThis block is a 10" block. (That is - 10 1/2" unfinished.) Use scappy white-on-white fabrics for the background. Use a print that says "basket" for the basket and base. It might not be brown, could be tan or some other color, but it should make you think of a basket. The large triangle over the basket should be "foliage". The other squares and triangles that are not background should be florals. Think Easter flowers.
The small half-square triangles can be made by 2" triangle paper or by your favorite quick half-square triangle method. They are 2 1/2" unfinished. The large triangles are 4 1/2" unfinished. Use 4" triangle paper or your favorite method. See the February block instructions for my method.
There are also two flying geese units on this block. Click here to see an easy method for making flying geese units. The large triangle will be a white-on-white fabric and the small triangles will be florals.
In the first row, start with a white-on-white square 2 1/2"x2 1/2". Join to a half-square triangle unit (half white-on-white, half floral), then a flying geese unit. In the next row, start with a half-squre triangle unit( half white-on-white, half floral), join to a floral square (2 1/2"x2 1/2") and then to another square the same size, then a half square triangle unit (two floral prints.) Next join a floral square 2 1/2"x2 1/2" to a half square triangle unit (two floral prints). Join this to a flying geese unit. Join this to the large half-square triangle unit (basket and foliage.) Sew this unit to the first two rows. Now join a 6 1/2"x2 1/2" white-on-white rectangle to a basket print triangle cut 2 7/8" by 2 7/8" (cut a square that size and cut diagonally). Then join the other 6 1/2"x2 1/2" rectangle to the other 3 7/8"x3 7/8" triangle. Make sure they are going the opposite way on each rectangle. Join these units to the sides of the block. Then join a 2 7/8"x2 7/8" white-on-white triangle (cut a square that size and cut diagonally, save the other triangle for the other block) to the remaining diagonal on the block. See the block graphic for color placement.
Press seams toward the floral fabric. If you have questions or comments, post a note to the bulletin board or email Squirrel or Azpatch. Blocks will be due by the April 23rd.
